Something to read during Xmas work doldrums: The Abominable Charles Christopher, an incredible webcomic that a friend pointed me in the direction of this evening.
The year in music, huh? Well, let me tell you, despite seeing a good number of concerts this year, when it came to new music, I kind of didn't pay all that much attention. There was some good new stuff from old standbys like Shellac* and Les Savy Fav** that I knew would be right up my alley. Most of the stuff y'all are going nuts about didn't do anything for me or failed to stick past the initial few listens. This year was more about old stuff like Japanese garage rock (Teengenerate, Guitar Wolf), 60s garage rock (The Sonics), 70s Australian punk (the two Murder Punk comps) and getting back with some old favorites (The Misfits, Joy Division, Jesus and Mary Chain, Exploding Hearts). Also finally heard some new songs by The Future of the Left, aka McLusky 2.0 for those of you who miss those guys. First album should be out in the US next year!
*Steady As She Goes, performed live in some house.
**The Equestrian, which you can hear through one of two fan vids: 1. Irish kid running around the countryside. 2. Little girl playing with her horsey dolls and lip synching to it in her room. Possibly my favorite song of the year.
In case you didn't notice yet, Flickr Pro users now have nifty stats and referrers page for their photostream.
Talking about WW earlier today, really:
JR: How about the five werewolves each have different personalities. Maybe one is evil, the others are misunderstood.
Av: No, no, no. They each have different screams when they fight. And you could call it Five Deadly Phonemes.
OK, back to studying.
T-Rex has apparently been spying on my friends and I because today's Dinosaur Comic reads like a transcript of some recent conversations.
Trying out my new Nikkor lens with VR stabilization out around the apartment. Hand held at 1/6, awesome.
